How To Make Your Ride More Comfortable With Saddle Stirrups

By Anita Ortega

To make you equine ride more comfortable, there are several devices you can put up. But in doing so, you first need to consider the design do your saddles. Make sure that the arch in the front would have the sufficient width and height to support the shoulders when sliding.

You should also be aware that it is common for horse to change their shapes. This is the reason behind the need to change the saddle stirrups yearly because if not, they would not have the proper fitting. This can be due to a lot of causes such as aging, loss or gain or body wight and muscle mass.

The next thing that you have to secure is the appropriate cinch and you can count on this even if the saddles do not fit right. Avoid over tightening the front part because that will only make the horse feel uncomfortable and if you have it rigged doubly, you should use both of the cinches with a connector strap for your own safety. You must also get one that can be easily cleaned.

You may also think about buying a back cinch and this would be more appropriate for trails that are steeper or if your feel unsecured with your saddles. In turn, you will be able to have a more stable ride as this would be stabilizing the saddleback. Before hitting the road with this for the first time, be sure to lead to animal so he would get used to that feeling.

Another matter that you have to keep in mind is to get a crupper and a breast collar since these two would keep you secure. This can also prevent the risk of incurring sores when you have to ride up hill because the crupper will keep you from sliding towards the front part. The breast collar will also work when you have to climb up a trail which is steep.

Tie strings as well as the rings to increase the level of comfort that you will get while you go on riding together with enhancing the attachment points. This is very much suitable when you go trailing. You can bring this over to some tack shops and have saddlemakers attached them.

The seat is something that has the proper fit so you would be comfortable when you sit. Checking this should be done at least once in a year before going through the first ride. Try to stand in the a stirrup and sit down again without the fear of falling or being out of balance and you should not fall when you do this.

If you are still going to get a stirrup, you must invest on something that is wide and flat. This would be great in giving you the maximum support for the ball of your foot and there are also those which have wider treads. Some even have the pads which are shock absorbing and can enhance comfort for your joint and foot.

You also have to be informed that it would be the natural for a stirrup to be positioned sideways. Avoid going to a different direction or else you will have soreness over your ankles as well as your knees. There are also lightweight saddles available which are best for trails.
