Secrets To Playing A Mental Game Of Golf

By Paulette Short

There are many games that are famous in many countries. One of these is golf which has attracted attention from different people. Some people have become well known worldwide due to playing and becoming champions. This has motivated others to start practicing this game so as to become title holders as well. Some play for pleasure while others do so as a source of livelihood. Whatever the reason for playing, there are simple ways in which one can learn how to play a mental game of golf.

Every morning when one wakes up he is in need of food after several hours of fasting. Food fuels our bodies during physical activities. Failing to take breakfast would result to poor performance on the field due to lack of energy. Overeating is not good either as the body will be in stress as it tries to digest the excess food. The best meal in the morning before a competition should be light and include all nutrients. Beverages that make the body loose water should be avoided.

When one arrives on the field where the competition is to take place, he should move around so as to know the extent and geography well. This will help him to be able to plan his moves in his mind before the event starts. This also helps in improving blood supply to the muscles and brain thus improving the body's effectiveness. Warm up exercises that do not tire the body are advisable to relax the muscles.

As the play progresses, one will lose water through sweating especially on a hot day. A player should thus keep drinking water in small amounts in between shots. He should also eat healthy foods in small amounts so as to avoid hunger which would affect his play. Fruits would be a healthy option for consumption. Foods that are rich in fats should be avoided as they overburden the body's systems and cause an imbalance that affects performance.

All focus should be on the ball when making a shot. Any distractions such as thinking about previous shots or the performance of others should not be accommodated. Shifting one's thoughts to the upcoming shots is also a distraction and should not be done when making a swing for the ball.

Having a playing routine connects a player's body with the brain. This enables one to make a perfect shot. Any physical activity originates in the head through nerve impulses. A routine brings about harmony between the commands that are from the brain to the muscles leading to a perfect shot. A post shot routine is also very valuable and plays the same role.

Mistakes happen all the time and should not hold back a player from moving on to better performances. Upon making a bad shot, one should learn the mistake he has made and move on. Dwelling on one mistake will only lead to repetition of the same and also more mistakes since the body is not at peace with itself.

These are some of the secrets to playing a mental game of golf. If keenly adhered to, one can improve his skill in a very short period of time. However it needs practice to perfect.
