Red River Catfishing Always In Season

By Rosella Campbell

Many catfishing magazines do not write much about moving water fishing except for trail races. Moving water fishing holds a lot of chances if it is carried out in the right manner therefore it must be looked at. Red river catfishing holds very many opportunities which are all probably fun for fishermen and are also expected to be fruitful in catching catfish.

Fast water can be a very good source of fish all throughout the seasons. This is because it has a constant supply of oxygen and fresh food that can be a good source of survival for the fish. When coupled with a hole snag, these places can be good sources of trophy channel cats. To be clear, this fast water does not necessarily be a raging current, it simply means any visible current.

Each catfishing period may have its own different method of catching the fish in the current. An angler will need to have information on the feeding patterns and movements of the fish in all seasons in relation to the moving water. With this understanding they will easily figure out how to feed them and catch them.

The pre-spawn period is one of fish seasons that is good for angling. This is because it is usually during the spring periods when the flooding waters have not yet subsided. Water in this particular season flows faster and there are many catfish for anglers to catch. In this season they will have no choice but to learn how to deal with the currents.

In spring, the rivers open up and allow greater flow of fresh water. This means that there will be more food and oxygen and therefore there will be many catfish on a feeding state. This season, the fish are likely to fatten up making them even easier for the anglers to catch. The most favorable way of catching fish in this period is by taking the boat straight to the fishing spot and making a sharp drop to the bottom of the river.

The spawn period is another period that many anglers view as the hardest to fish. Traditional methods of catfishing are hard to use during this season hence the best way to go about it is to find a spot where the river funnels down so as to find faster moving water.

The post-spawn is another period that is full of catfish that are big-headed, long and skinny. This is the period that most of the catfish coming out to feed after they spend a long time resting in their nests. Their lack of aggressiveness is caused due to the fact that they do not eat in this period. To catch catfish in this period, it is wiser to find a place where the water is flowing low into a hole.

The summer can also be a good season for catfishing as the currents are low and the waters are clear. The visible currents will make it easier for the fishermen to see the fish which makes their work easier. It is therefore always a fishing season in red river hence people who love angling should consider this place.
