Finding Collectible Fishing Lures For Sale

By Marsha Klein

Just like any other hobby, collectible fishing lures is one that is enjoyed by many young and old people around the world. It is sometimes very surprising however to people just seeing old antique lures for the first time just how many have survived over the years. They may have been constructed from different materials but many of them look very similar.

The design has largely remained the same although the methods and ideas have changed a bit. In the past many of the baits were made from wood and if they needed to sink a bit deeper they would be weighted down on the inside or outside of the bait. Weights were usually made from lead or steal depending on the bait itself.

The people who collect these baits sometimes travel all over the world to locate a certain lure that might have been made over a hundred years ago. It is amazing how far back these can go. There are many people out there who did not even realize that fishing was that old, let alone the artificial baits that the anglers used.

But if you are hunting for food, it is much more effective to use a net. When you fish this way for sport there will always be things left behind to act as collectibles or memorabilia. These things go back a long ways and there is a rich history that goes along with them. In the early days the baits were made from wood and various other materials.

They did not however look anything like the artificial baits we have today. One look and you could tell that these are from the distant past. There is also a rather large following out there of people who collect these things. You would be surprised to see that there are so many of these baits that survived the many years of use.

Considering the beating that some of these took it does surprise people to see that so many have made it so far and in such good condition. On the other hand it is just as surprising to see how many of the real old lures look just like the ones from today. They might have been made from very different materials but they they could look very similar.

Today they are known mainly for their reels but many people do not realize they have a very rich and storied history in baits. The companies that were around back then were as diverse as the people who were using their products. Some of the companies started out with just one person making lures because they had fun doing it.

Then one day they started to sell what they were making and they realized they could make money. Some companies stayed that way and refused to grow when the opportunity presented itself. Collectible fishing lures brings out a vast array of stories and each one is as unique as the last and just as exciting and interesting to hear. So the next time you are fishing, think of the lures that came before.. You might be surprised.
